I am an investor with over thirty years experience in stocks, bonds, real estate (urban, suburban, land) and government programs such as subsidized housing/Section 8. I have a Master's Degree plus and have retired into doing things that are of deep interest to me, which includes volunteer credit counseling, real estate counseling and supporting political candidates strong on national defense issues.

November 23, 2008: 60 Degrees and Holding

I am writing this blog from the Myrtle Beach SC airport waiting for a flight back to cold, ice and snow. I think there is something that many financial "experts" fail to mention. There is a way to partially offset security losses. That is - work to produce more income. I have probably put in 100 hour work week between Columbus, OH and my construction business in NC this week. I am exhausted, but at least the weather here has been pleasant (cool for North Carolinians). Working also allows one to mentally forget some of life's rough moments that would be counter-productive to brood upon. Everyone has them, even during the best of times. With things falling apart at the seams for many investors, it is even more important to work hard, ponder less and avoid falling into a depressed state. I find that work allows me to think more clearly as well, and thus hopefully make better decisions.

We have all have our share of trials and tribulations, whether we care to admit it to ourselves or not. The human condition is one of trial by situation. Don't let the situation dictate your emotions. Embrace change, and create an even higher quality of life for the future.
